There are questions about when and how to hold your
breath while you do this. I am making a video to help show how,
but you take a deep breath and hold it using your throat/vocal chords
first, then stick your tongue into the back of your throat to clog your
nasal draining passages there, so the solution can not run down your throat,
and tip your head back and pour the neti pot solution in your nose now,
then plug your nose and do the tipping over exercises - but do them rather
slowly, not too fast, then lean over the sink and exhale and breath normally,
and then blow your nose some, to expel all the solution. Then equalize
the pressure in your ears a few times to help press the solution deep
into your eustachian tubes if needed, and this can also help drian the
liquid if it seems stuck there.
You may need to do some more tipping over exercises at this point to get
all the solution or mucus out too.
The ear canals are like a roller coaster going uphill and down hill so
you might have to work to get the fuid out once the solution breaks it
up to a state that can even be drained.
Here is a video I made about how to hold your breath and hold the sinus rinse in your deep sinus cavities and do the exercises to swish it around.
If you find it impossible to hold the solution in your sinuses by holding your breath with your tongue then you can try the simpler Nasal Spray Angled Method here. It doesn't always work but it is worth a last ditch try. Another thing to try is drip nasal spray into your nose while laying down, to try to get it into your eustachain tubes.
I got solution stuck in my ear
For anyone who gets solution stuck in your ear, you probably stood up and expelled the solution too fast after getting it into your deep inner ear tubes. You need to keep rotating your head and tiping over and back, till it comes out. Imagine how your ear canals go up and down, and you need to think about how to let the water drain, visualize it. As if you were getting all the water out of a long loose water hose. Try leaning down to touch your knees, then tip your head to both sides while down there, and then slowly roll your head around to your side and back up to standing, then lean back as far as you can and look at the sky (or farther back even), then tip your head side to side *slowly*, you should be able to get all the water to drain this way. If it got in, it will come out! Another thing you can try if you cannot bend over and touch your knees, is lie on the bed face down near the edge and let your head hang over the edge of the bed so the crown of your head is facing the floor. Not everyones eustachian tube can drain out while standing strait up especially if it is still swollen. try repeating the solution, maybe it did not open the eustachian tubes completely. Hope this works for you!
Can I get a child to do this remedy?
This can be done on a child IF they will hold still and let you drip solution into thier nose with a dropper. You could hurt them if you try to force it on them so they must lie still. Have them lie on their back on the bed, and drip diluted nasal spray solution into their nose very slowly. Be sure to add some salt or use saline and NOT tap water so it doesn't sting the sensative nasal membranes at all. Only a few drops is needed on a child. Have them tilt their head from side to side slowly to 'rinse'. Have a bowl ready for them to lean into to "drain". This is NOT a cure for chronic ear infections in a child but it COULD be a way to prevent them - by keeping the eustachian tubes cleared to avoid a breeding ground for bacteria.
Why does my ear feel full and make noises?
Assuming there is no earwax present which could also cause symptoms of ear fullness, for most people, the ear fullness is due to their inability to pop their ears easily (or, open up the eustachian tube to allow fluid drainage). Why would this cause ear fullness? It's because there is a PRESSURE difference between the air pressure in the middle ear and the pressure outside across the eardrum. When there is a pressure difference, the eardrum either bulges outward (positive pressure) or bulges inward (negative pressure). Basically, when the eardrum bulges inward or outward, it creates a sensation of fullness for the person. Learn more about it here.
